Battery vs no-battery: what's right for you?
5 min read
A grid-tied system without batteries is the cheapest way to cut your bill, because you use solar power the moment it is produced. If most of your electricity use happens during daylight hours, this is often the best value per rand spent.
Batteries buy you two things: evening usage of your own solar power, and backup when the grid is down. They are excellent at both — they are simply expensive.
A common middle path is a hybrid inverter installed now with a small battery, sized to carry essentials, with room to expand later.
